Success Story

SUCCESS STORIES

joined the Madd Poets Society when I was just eleven years old. Recalling myself at that age, I was petrified by the idea of standing up in front of people, let alone, read my own personal poetry to another person. During meetings, performances, and social events, the MPS staff and the fellow poets built a strong rapport that allowed for an extremely comfortable environment for learning how to write and present poetry. There were exercises and consistent constructive feedback that helped me think more deeply about my writing and how I was presenting myself to an audience. This is because the Madd Poets Society teaches a poet to be conscious about strengths and areas of improvements, but I never once felt like my work was not good. Rather, it lit a fire in me to better myself. What initially terrified me quickly became one of the highlights of my week. This program made me realize just how thrilling it is to get up in front of crowd, big or small, and make a personal connection through literary expression. As a recent college graduate, I look back and recognize how much the Madd Poets contributed to my confidence and enthusiasm for writing and speaking in front of others.

My experiences in this program instilled a passion for literature and public speaking that ultimately lead to my decision to become a teacher. I hope to inspire and teach my students as much as the Madd Poets Society has inspired and taught me.
